Today I begin a journey of giving up things. I had a wonderful breakfast and said goodbye to food.

I am embarking on a Juice Fast. I am not sure if it's location. I'm planning on 60 days. I have done this once before, inspired by the documentary Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead, and had great results. I lost weight which gave me momentum and ultimately over a year period I was able to lose 50lbs.

The more amazing results were my blood work. My LDL cholesterol dropped to a very healthy level and my triglycerides which were very high fell to a number the made my doctors jaw drop. I will try and dig up the actual numbers.

Well in the years since I have got back into bad eating habits, I have stopped lifting, stopped running, stopped jumping rope, and I have allowed my work to take over my life.

I don't read anymore. I watch too much TV. My life has be come unmanageable.

So I begin again. I have a new job with a lower stress level and I am minimalizing my life. Minimalizing stressors and maximizing happiness and joy.

The other thing I will be doing is going through my stuff and getting rid of anything that does not being me joy.

Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodemus of the minimalist blog talk all about this. Check it out and come back As I chronicle my journey of getting rid of junk, getting rid of fat, and getting rid of bad habits.

We will explore the effect this has on happiness and we will start to talk to others who are happy and find out why?

What makes your happy? Leave a comment and let me know.

New beginnings

I have been thinking a lot about this blog, that I never post on, and what it's purpose should be.

Fake a dream is in essence faking it till you make it to your ultimate goal. In my own head I thought it sounded so profound but I wasn't entirely sure still what that meant.

What does faking your dreams/goals till you achieve them look like?

I may have found my answer in Positive Psychology. What is our ultimate goal? For some it is related to career, others it is family kids and spouse, and others it is security. But really what we all want is to be happy.

So how do you fake a dream by doing what you like and liking what you do.

I'm not of course saying you should give up your dreams and be content with what you have. Goals and dreams are wonderful things. Working towards goals makes us reach out great potential. But don't forget the amazing story of the Jamaican bobsled team; Cool Runnings, peace be the journey.

Enjoy the ride. Enjoy now. Because it's all you have. When you arrive at your goal you will still only have now.

As one of the greatest writers of our time put it when posed; why don't you care where your are going? "because how you get there is the more worthy part."

So what is the point? The point is I am interested in a better healthier life, for everyone. Today I start on a journey to find happiness at all costs. Even the cause of my personal contentment.

Today I was able to diffuse two situations at the therapeutic treatment program I work at with only a red clown nose.

Yesterday was" Red Nose Day" it is a fundraiser for Comic Relief a charity that helps kids.

I bought close to twenty for my students. I thought it would be a nice walk to the store to buy them, it would be good to support this charity, and red noses would be powerful tools in a therapeutic setting.

Imagine someone in crisis, extremely upset, and ready to lose it. And they are approached by a staff member with a larger red clown nose. They will be hard pressed not to smile. I tried this twice today and once yesterday and so far 100% success rate.
